Guanajuato, Gto., March 7, 2016.- Within activities of the commemoration of the International Women's Day, the University of Guanajuato (UG) participated in the Colloquium Gender Equality and Perspective, organized by the state Congress.

The yard of the "Casa Legislativa Guanajuatense" was the scenario who held speakers such as Patricia Manrique Valadez, Amalia García Medina, whilst from UG the researchers-professors who participated were, M. Rocío Corona Azanza, from the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies and Dr. Aidé Hernández García, from the Division of Law, Politics and Government of Campus Guanajuato.

In her talk denominated "Mi petición es justa y basada en texto de ley" (My request is just and based on the text of law), M. Rocío Corona Azanza, made a historical retrospective to identify breakthroughs and pending to achieve the equality between men and women, from the promulgation of the Political Constitution of the Mexican United States in the year of 1917. She exposed that this Magna Letter is considered as a revolutionary achievement; nevertheless, the question of the impact it has had in the life of Mexicans prevails, and especially, the impact in life of women.

She pointed out that despite consecrating rights, among them the political, inequality persists, which places women in a disadvantage situation regarding men. In her analysis of the historical becoming, she recognizes there has been progress through legislation, but limited to the rights of women. Hence, voices have emerged "who join to fine knit the warp of history of women, having to fight between being and the must be, between anchylosed prejudices... and that say: my request is just and based on the text of law."

On her part, Dr. Ma. Aidé Hernández García, addressed her participation from a citizen perspective. She questioned whether today, men and women are equal. The legislation establishes it, but the challenge is to make the laws effective; she warned. She Insisted that a social discrimination and a resistance to generate rights, which guarantee the equality between men and women prevail.

Likewise, she listed a series of challenges in the topic of political equality: trust of women to fight for the spaces; work with men and women to achieve equity; greater aperture of political party's leaders for inclusion; to include women in important decisions; formation of feminine leadership in parties; and the parties need to have more spaces and not only an elite who rules.
