Guanajuato, Gto., March 15, 2016.- The Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, inaugurated the works of the forum "Between Water and Earth", organized by the Department of Education of the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies and the Department of Engineering, Geomatics and Hydraulics of the Division of Engineering, the "Sistema de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (SIMAPAG)" and the Direction of Ecology and Environment of Guanajuato.

To commemorate the World's Day of Water, on March 22, and the International day of the Earth, April 22; they made this event whose objective is to promote between the university community and society in general, a culture of care and efficient use of water.

In his message, Dr. Corona Fernández considered that this encounter is an essential opportunity to join efforts in pro of a fundamental topic for everyone: the water and the care of the environment, and celebrated the decided participation of college students in these works.

Among the activities done from Campus Guanajuato in the matter of caring for water, he remarked projects supported in 2015 when they were in the final stage and ready to be transferred to society: a pilot plant to treat residential waste water, project of Dr. Germán Cuevas Rodríguez, of the Division of Engineering; and the removal of arsenic and fluoride of deep wells water in Guanajuato through an electrocoagulation process in pre-pilot scale.

This last one, he said, is a project of Dr. José Luis Nava Montes de Oca, also from the Division of Engineering, who has the objective the removal of fluorine and arsenic from deep well water, which is contaminated in the city of Silao. Even, he sustained, in these moments, there is a prospective study in progress for the possible implementation of a plant with SIMAPAG.

M. Luis Jesús Ibarra Manrique, Director of the Department of Education of the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies from campus Guanajuato, gave a welcome message and reminded that for many years they commemorate the world's day of water and earth, although separately, but this time conflux to potentiate the results.

In the opening ceremony also participated the Director of Environment and Ecology from the Municipal Presidency, Eng. Jorge Humberto Villalobos; Dr. Luis Enrique Mendoza Puga, Director of the Division of Engineering and Dr. Gilberto Carreño, Director of the Department of Engineering, Geomatics and Hydraulics from the Division of Engineering, both from Campus Guanajuato.
