Guanajuato, Gto., March 31, 2016.- With the purpose to achieve a greater participation of the university community, Dr. José de Jesús Álvarez Herrera, rugby team coach and physician of the sport teams in the University of Guanajuato, invites all students to know this sport.

Dr. Álvarez Herrera, graduate from Med school at the University of Guanajuato, commented that the team formed in March '77 thanks to the professors Desmond O'Shaughnessy and Jorge Corso. That is how the most ancient rugby team in the Mexican Rugby Union –now Mexican Federation—of Rugby was created and achieved a national tournament in the '85-'86 season.

He added that in the last five years, rugby had become the sport with more development in the whole country, making both men and women be interested in participating, thanks that is now an Olympic sport both in the men and women's categories.

However, Dr. Álvarez Herrera recognized that there is still too much to do to diffuse this sport and achieve its consolidation in Mexico.

With this purpose, the University of Guanajuato has created a girl rugby team in high school Pénjamo, besides the female and male teams from the house of studies, achieving a greater interest from the community inside and outside the university.
