Guanajuato, Gto., March 29, 2016.- Dr. Tessy López Goerne is a clear example of devotion, arduous work, as well as perseverance that contribute in generating an inspiring trajectory.

Dr. López Goerne is one of the most renowned Mexican scientists, her specialty is the Catalytic Nanomedicine with the end of granting benefits to society.

The outstanding researcher is from capital Guanajuato and since early age, she had a strong link with the University of Guanajuato (UG), since his father was a scientist in the Faculty of Chemistry in the same institution. In an interview, she affirmed, "my interest for science emerged while seeing my father, almost since I was born, I started going to the labs with my father; I was months old in age since I started going every day to the University of Guanajuato. (UG)."

Dr. Tessy López Goerne mentioned that she graduated as a Chemist Laboratory worker in the University of Guanajuato at the age of 17, then she continued her studies in Mexico City, where she enrolled in the "Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana" (UAM), "I decided to study Physics-Chemistry, then made a Master's in Solid State and Finally a Doctorate in Materials."

That is the reason why she started developing research in the Petro-chemistry area. Later, because of her trajectory, responsibility and passion for science, in 2005 she founded the Research Lab in Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine, same that she currently runs.

"I focused in medicine, thanks to an agreement between UAM and the "Instituto Nacional de Neurocirugía", in which they gave me the task to found the laboratory. I like challenges, I like the adrenaline, so I began working and suddenly I realized that it was a large laboratory, with a lot of people who wanted to learn nanomedicine", Dr. López indicated.

In first place, she started focusing in research and application that went directly to the nervous system, "we made reservoirs of nanoparticles to put inside different medicines and release them at distinct times –depending on what the me the medic needed. At the beginning, we worked in diseases such as Epilepsy and Parkinson" she said.

One of Dr. Tessy López Goerne's greater achievements is the instauration of the use of the Catalytic Nanomedicine; this branch of science has been used to make several studies that have contributed with health improvements and in breakthroughs to find cures for certain diseases.

Such is the case of the problem of the "diabetic foot," to which a solution has been found thanks to Dr. Tessy's research group, which created an ideal nanoparticle to close wounds.

Dr. López highlighted the importance of such research because besides the diabetic foot, the nanoparticle can help revert the effects of other diseases that generate wounds that do not heal, "there is an amount of diseases difficult to close that we cannot even imagine because we don't have them, such as burn or lacerations of people in bed for a long time due to health issues."

Dr. Tessy López Goerne continues working and fighting the illnesses in this century with great commitment and love for science, so together with her team, they research the cure for pulmonary diseases such as pulmonary emphysema, COPD, as well as lung cancer. She confirmed that "the Nano world is the 21st century medicine; we are definitely giving a step more in the history of mankind. In which we finish with a series of diseases, and new ones come; the fight doesn't end, so I consider is time to continue stepping" she exhorted.

It is important to mention that Dr. López Goerne has received numerous prizes from diverse educational and governmental instances both national and international. An example of this, are the awards granted by Weizmann Academy of Israel, UNESCO, OAS, Mexican Academy of Sciences; as well as the medal "Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla"; level three researcher from CONACYT-SEP and distinguished professor by Tulane University, New Orleans, US.

Equally, she is renowned in the reunion Council for Parity Democracy, as one of the four women who can possibly win the Nobel Prize of Chemistry. She has written more than 200 research articles in magazines and several communication media.
