Guanajuato, Gto., March 29, 2016. Due to the lack of an updated diagnosis of the situation of the elders in the state, the University of Guanajuato (UG) supports the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF) with an analysis that will be the base to define the existing needs and which are the priority programs.
One of the participants in the project is Lic. Priscila Centeno Castillo, a student from the Master in Medical Sciences in UG's Campus Leon, who considers that elders constitute a sector in the population that is very disregarded, hence, the importance of the project developed by UG and DIF.
"It is a high-risk population, numerous and disregarded," Priscila Centeno affirms, who adds that is fundamental to know how the elder live and what problems they face daily. There are many factors that have a negative impact, such as the unawareness of support programs and the lack of infrastructure to tend them; therefore, they seek prevention; she confirms.
The project "Factores asociados a la calidad de vida en el adulto mayor en el estado de Guanajuato" (Associated factors of the quality of life in the elder in the state of Guanajuato) will give DIF the elements to determine which social programs must be implemented. It is a great reach project, reveals Priscila Centeno, because is done in the state and with a noteworthy team.
Regarding her participation in this project, the student pointed out that the most significant of this experience is learning.
Whomever has not yet incurred in projects of this type; it is advised to do so, especially because UG gives a lot of support: "research can be very complicated in the beginning, but go for it. It brings many satisfactions" she concludes.
