Guanajuato, Gto., April 5, 2016.- The debate team of the University of Guanajuato (UG) won the first place of the first contest of Inter-university Debate, organized by the Municipal Institute of Youth from Irapuato and the "Instituto Electoral del Estado de Guanajuato (IEEG)."

The Professors of the Division of Law, Politics and Government of UG, Maria Catalina Pérez Razo, advisor of the debate team, recognized the triumph obtained thanks to the effort made outside class hours, during weekends and holidays.

The debate team is composed by several students, however, this summon would only allow three members so Mónicamiguel Muñoz Olmedo, Cuitlahuac Castillo Camarena and Alfredo García Martínez defended each topic with great performance.

It is worth mentioning that in this contest seven universities from the state of Guanajuato inscribed, they debated several topics related with democracy, among them: gender quotas, independent candidacies, distrust in the electing institutions, among others.

In the first round, UG's team debates the topic "independent candidacies", while for the semifinal was "gender quotas" and with this same topic won the final against the "Universidad Quetzalcóatl" of Irapuato.

Students from the University of Guanajuato obtained a recognition for their participation, in the first place trophy and a trip to Mexico City to visit the Union Congress among other institutions related with democracy.

At the end of the competition, the students gathered information about the participants at the end to commit in creating a network of debaters that includes all universities.
