Irapuato, Gto. April 11, 2016.- University members of the "Sociedad Mexicana de Inocuidad y Calidad para Consumidores de Alimentos A.C." participated in the "SOMEICCA Day" to remark the importance that the population has access to nutritious and innocuous food, because improving the nutritional state of people, the quality of life from one region and a country improves.

Students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) and the "Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Guanajuato" (ITESG) that are taking the degree in Food Engineering, gathered in the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) by summon from Dr. Maria Guadalupe Basurto Cadena, national academic vocal of such civil association.

The also professor from the Department of Food from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca from UG, commented that Mexico has the highest indexes on obese children and adults, in addition that the country consumes soda, which represents economic loads on the health system if they do not provide education in nourishment for the population. Hence, the importance for the work made at SOMEICCA, who every year makes activities that joins professors, students and professionals in the food branch.

During SOMEICCA Day, there were conferences such as "The Impact of the control or allergens and their labeling, elements of the management systems of safety" by Esmeralda Paz Lemus, Manager of Project Development at LEFIX and Associates. Other conferences were "Forming intelligent food consumers" by Q.F.B. Marco Antonio León Félix, who also spoked about the evolution of the quality control programs and safety in the food industry.

Currently, 80 students from Food Engineering are affiliates to the society, whose state president of SOMEICCA students, Stephanie Amalia barrios Negrete, reported that in the 2011 a group of students believed in the objectives of that society and since then have conformed with three student committees that participated in four international congresses in which they presented 36 free work, obtaining a first place in the postgraduate category, as well as a second place and two honorific mention in the degree category.

Another achievement more is the participation of UG students in the knowledge contest named "Inocuitón" where institutions such as the "Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México" (UNAM) and the "Instituto Politécnico Nacional" (IPN), among others, participate. In such contest, UG students obtained three second places and two third places, demonstrating the level within the institution.

The Rector from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Dr. Ernesto Camarena Aguilar inaugurated the event accompanied by the Division and Department's directors.
