
Guanajuato, Gto.,April 18, 2016. From April 25th to 30th, the European Film Festival in Guanajuato will occur. Organized by the University of Guanajuato (UG) through the Direction of Cultural Extension, which this year will homage the Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland and will have as the guest country, the Czech Republic.
After revealing the program of the EFFG (GUCE in Spanish), the Academic Secretary of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. José Luis Lucio Martínez, who went representing the General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, exposed that the objective is to generate a platform for the highest quality European films, under the coordination of UG's Movie Club.
The festival is present in the fourth university campuses and UG's high school. It has 72 screenings in 22 venues, that allow bringing to the public excellent European films that have not been seen in Mexico, and "probably will never be", said GUCE's director, Eliseo de Pablos.
The Director of Cultural Extension, Dr. Sara Julsrud López, pointed out that will be able to appreciate 95 cinematographic screenings, furthermore, conferences and four workshops: "Journalism and audiovisual language", "Production and project development", "Cinematographic critique and analysis from a multidisciplinary perspective" and "Design and construction of puppets".
As a courtesy from the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Mexico, in coordination with the National Museum-Náprstek Museum in Prague; in the artistic corridor "José Chávez Morado" there will be the photo expo "Visions" from Enrique Stanko Vráz.
Among the activities, the screening of "The Circus" from Charles Chaplin, stands out, because it will be musicalized live by Furia Kamikaze. This will occur on April 27th at 20:30 hours at Plaza San Roque in Guanajuato.
The filmmaker, art curator and GUCE's Director, Eliseo de Pablos, considered that the festival's program is one the best there is in Mexico, since it includes "authentic jewels" such as "Don Quijote of Orson Wells" and "Don Quijote de la Mancha", from the director Rafael Gil, movies that cannot be found in Mexico, he remarked.
Likewise, they will screen the movies "Faust", "Little Otik" and "Alice", from Jan Švankmajer, who is considered "the maximum living genius of movies".
In addition, Eliseo de Pablos highlighted the collaboration with the Czech Republic, especially in the category GUCE Children, with high-quality animated films. Also, the presence of experts in a table from Agnieszka Holland, who will be homage on Thursday April 28th at 20:00, in the "Mesón de San Antonio".
The movie that will inaugurate the festival activities will be "Phoenix" of Christian Petzold (Germany); Tuesday 26 they will screen "Mustang: Wild beauty" (Turkey-France-Germany), "In Darkness" (Poland), "Train de Vie" (France) and "The Knight Don Quijote" (Spain), among other films.
