Guanajuato, Gto., April 18, 2016.- Human Studies not only are the soul of the University of Guanajuato but society itself; therefore, it is important to have a group of professionals in the subject, capable of accompanying the cognitive performance, and above all, the ethic mood of such society; said Dr. Aureliano Ortega Esquivel, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies (DCSH, for its acronym in Spanish) from Campus Guanajuato.

In an interview about achievements and progress from the Division he leads, Dr. Ortega reminded that Social Sciences and Human Studies is a complex, diverse division, which handles many extension programs and continuous education, which has considerably increased the number of students, and today there are around 4,500 youth in its academic programs run by six departments, and in continuous education courses or extension.

In that matter, he highlighted, that in our time is precisely the ethic talent that sometimes lacks in our actions and institutions "and I believe that human studies, all of them: education, history, philosophy, letters, are there, solely, to provide through dialogue with the social actors, this moral dimension that every institution must have and without it, it dehumanizes".

He celebrated that in the case of teaching, they practically have all the programs accredited, the last of the programs is in process of accreditation, and the rest, had a good grade before the accrediting organisms, both in the "Consejo para la Acreditación de Programas Educativos en Humanidades" (COAPEHUM) as well as the committees from higher education institutions.

In the same matter, he expressed that DCSH has many publications and a permanent presence in specialized communication media through the production among the community members, besides that the editorial presence has increased in the last years and have established agreements with important editorials who ease the distribution to far more number of readers.

Dr. Ortgea Esquivel also highlighted the important presence in programs of social intervention and contact with society, since every department develops programs such as history talks in cities, reading encouragement programs in collaboration with high schools and entities from the Secretary of Education aimed for elementary children to address them at that age, so they can understand that human studies are important for life in general.

Regarding infrastructure, DCSH's Director informed that the Federal Government through the Instituto de Administración y Avalúos de Bienes Nacionales (INDAABIN), donated a land of more than 22,000 sq. m. for the construction of facilities for the use of the division, which is located next to the mine Valenciana, in this city.

While the city of Cuerámaro donated a land of 20,000 sq. m. for the construction of a language center, which is under construction thanks to the city's contribution of 2 million pesos and will be encouraged by DCSH.

Nevertheless, concluded Dr. Aureliano Ortega, these achievements are the result of everybody's effort, not only leadership of someone but the joint work of the departments in the Division, who had the first educative programs 64 years ago.
