Guanajuato, Gto., April 19, 2016.- With the finality to review the equipment needs, safety measures and make note to start actions to support the work of research and link, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, Rector of Campus Guanajuato, accompanied by administrative and safety personnel, made a tour through the laboratories of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences (DCNE).
He was received by Dr. Martín Picón Nuñez, DCNE's Director and the people in charge of the laboratories of Molecular Genetics of Fungus, of Pharmacy, of Bioprocesses and Organic Synthesis, who explained the research works that are currently developing and their social impact, as well as their needs.
Dr. Minerva Martínez Alfaro, responsible of the Laboratory of Pharmacy, indicated that they work in the evaluation of drugs, and in this moment they are testing drugs against cancer, their toxicity and action mechanism, and, in fact, the first article is already accepted for publishing. They also work in metal toxicology mechanisms.
In the laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Fungus, who Dr. Juan Carlos Torres Guzmán is responsible, works with yeast used in the production of tequila, mezcal and bread; while other area focuses in the fungus that attack insects, which are plagues for agriculture, such as the yellow aphid.
In his opportunity, Dr. Héctor Hernández Escoto, responsible of the Laboratory of Bioprocesses, designed a steel industrial reactor, which is a copy of a glass reactor, but the value in this consists on the lid that seals hermetically, to avoid the losing vapors and improve the safety processes.
Finally, Dr. Miguel Ángel Vázquez Guevara, responsible of the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, showed that they are working in projects for businesses and basic science, and this last one handles three research lines: synthesis of compounds with anti-carcinogenic activity, of compounds with anti-hypertensive activity and the part of antifungals.
