Guanajuato, Gto., a 19 de abril de 2016.- The improvement in infrastructure and equipment is a requirement in the instauration of optimal work conditions for researchers, professors and students from the Division of Engineering (DI) from the University of Guanajuato (UG).

The objective is to generate quality academic products that allow UG to compete with other universities throughout the country and the world, as affirmed in an interview with Dr. Luis Enrique Mendoza Puga, Director of the Division of Engineering from Campus Guanajuato.

He commented that thanks to the diagnostic made; it was possible to identify the most constant observations from accrediting organisms that were led to improve the conditions of the work spaces, equip laboratories, the accreditation of academic programs and the incorporation of the academic staff into the National System of Researchers (SNI, for its acronym in Spanish).

Part of the progress and achievements in 2015, Dr. Mendoza Puga, remarked the important development in infrastructure that DI had in the last year: the creation of 17 new cubicles for professors of new ascription, besides refurnishing of the existent.

The construction of the Laboratory building of Science and Technology of Water; with an investment of 17 million pesos, and the laboratory of Environmental Sciences; also, the Department of Mines, Metallurgy and Geology has a new building to house a scanning electron microscope and a diffractometer.

As for equipment, the computer center was completely updated; the addressed several needs from the laboratory of hydraulics and the laboratory of physics, in addition they acquired materials and equipment for the laboratory of metallurgy.

With the economic support of 3 million pesos from the "Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología" (CONACYT), they were able to acquire a liquid chromatograph.

This breakthrough in the physical structure has been accompanied by a development in teaching and the academic improvement, affirms DI's director: "we have worked arduously to update our educative programs according to the Academic Model from the University of Guanajuato; seven of our academic programs are already operating under this model.

Currently, four programs are in the accreditation process: Evironmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering and Hydraulics Engineering." Finally, he affirmed that the full-time professors have ratified their permanence at SNI an even had their promotion to a higher level.

All the above is a sample of the work done in DI "to contribute the fulfillment of the responsibility that the University of Guanajuato has to benefit society with their academic products" and to fully cover with their substantial functions: teaching, research and extension.
