Guanajuato, Gto., April 20, 2016.- The Division of Natural and Exact Sciences (DCNE) from Campus Guanajuato, managed to obtain 60 million pesos as resources for the funding of more than 60 research projects, thanks to the negotiations made by researchers-professors in 2015, informed in an interview, Dr. Martín Picón Nuñez, director of the division.

These resources derived from summons issued by external organisms, such as the "Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología" (CONACYT); the "Consejo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Estado de Guanajuato" (CONCYTEG); the "Secretaria de Educación Pública" (SEP), among others.

Also, from the 20 million 636 thousand and 335 pesos obtained for Campus Guanajuato in internal summons, --Institutional summon for research and the Program of Institutional Strengthening--, 63% was to develop projects poroposed by DCNE. In this way, this division is position as the one that negotiates more resources for research in all the campus.

As part of the obtained achievements in 2015, Dr. Picón informed that DCNE has consolidated the quality of their academic programs. Currently has 10 postgraduate programs, from which nine are inscribed to the National Program of Quality Postgraduates (PNPC) from CONACYT; seven in the consolidated level and two in the International Competence level; the Master in Astrophysics (Sciences) managed to get the international distinction in 2014 and the Doctorate in Chemistry obtained in 2015.

The quality of their programs is also expressed in the capability and enthusiasm that the students and professors have proven in international instances. According Dr. Picón Nuñez, in past years, DCNE has tightened academic collaboration links with Japanese universities.

With Nagaoka University of Technology, particularly, established a double degree program for postgraduates, and since the signing of the agreement in 2010 to the date, two master degree students and one doctorate students from UG have finished under this scheme.

Although most of the project developed by DCNE are scientific research, some are also linked with the industrial sector and society, since DCNE shares the mission from the University of Guanajuato to form professional an attend needs for the population in general.

"The University covers a primordial function with society, it is the mean through which the society can form their youth to carry out necessary functions for the economic and social development; so, the university has a fundamental role in this education process", commented Dr. Picón Núñez.
