
Dr. Ernesto Camarena highlighted that more than 81% of the Campus' programs are accredited for their quality, and their members are an example of talent and effort, highly capable professionals to answer the needs in their environment.
Tierra Blanca, Gto., April 21, 2016. While presenting the Annual Report of Activities corresponding to 2015, the Rector of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca from the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Ernesto Alfredo Camarena Aguilar expressed his pride for leading the efforts of a community in which their members distinguish for their academic merits and apply their talent for their benefit in society.
In the reported period, the audited enrollment of students was 4,718 in bachelor degrees and 249 in postgraduate; it means, a total of 4,967 students. In addition, this campus, attends 3,062 extension students from the Centers of Continuous Education. They, "the axis of our institution" –highlighted Dr. Camarena— "show their leadership in contests and national pageants, in entrepreneur tasks, in sport competitions or their participation in social projects.
Campus Irapuato-Salamanca has two divisions: Life Sciences and the Division of Engineering, as well as four venues: Irapuato, Salamanca, Yuriria and Tierra Blanca. In 2015, 85 full-time professors of the campus were part of the National Researchers System (SNI for its acronym in Spanish). The work from these scholars derived seven patents, seven industrial designs and one brand.
In addition, 81.5% of the degree programs and 81.8% of the postgraduate programs have a national accreditation.
"Our activities in the 2015 annual exercise deliver a positive balance, as shown in the global grade of the 89% of the fulfillment of our institutional goals, overcoming the results in 2013 and 2014. However, there's much to do still," expressed Dr. Camarena Aguilar.
In his speech, he specially referred to the work done in the Interdisciplinary Center of the Northeast from the University of Guanajuato (CINUG, for its acronym in Spanish), where UG was the pioneer of taking higher-education programs to this area of the state. From the students in this area, said: "In 2013, this youth decided to dream; they aspire for a better future, and we are helping them cover their goals."
A few months after his period as Rector, Dr. Camarena Aguilar highlighted that "this is not just one more report, is the colophon of more than 30 years of service of my dear alma mater. I can only thank all of you for your enthusiast collaboration and institutional commitment. I exhort you to continue contributing so our campus continues as a referent of quality with international projection."
Representing the university community, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, congratulated and expressed his recognition to the community from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, at the same time, the reaffirmed the support from the university authorities for the fulfillment of the campus' goals.
Dr. Guerrero emphasized that since the creation of the multi-campus system at UG, meaning, since 2008 until today, Campus Irapuato-Salamanca has managed to widen their coverage of almost 45%, and has distinguished for a work focused to extend their presence in diverse regions in the state.
"As a university, we must recognize that effort," he asserted.
The General Rector coincided with Dr. Camarena Aguilar in the challenges that come onto the campus, "the General Rectory is here for you to accompany you and engage together in these challenges. Since the challenge of a campus is the challenge of all the University."
Regarding the presence of UG in the Northeast, he highlighted that this fact addresses the essence of the house of studies: the social commitment. "People in this area deserve better possibilities of development, to recognize their greatness."
Therefore, he revealed that in few, the University of Guanajuato will implement the program of Regional Equity, which will allow students in the northeast and other laggard areas to have access –through the regulate pass—to educative programs in all UG's divisions. The General Rector informed that these students will have a scholarship, and in change, they are asked to have an academic performance, generate a social service program of impact and work in diffusing their traditions; so the university will become "international and intercultural."
At the event, the Municipal President of Tierra Blanca, Eng. Ramiro González Colin, also spoke and sustained, that the work from UG in the northeast begins to give results, so he is willing to reaffirm the commitment of the local government to bring out of the marginalization the habitants of this area. Education is the best tool to achieve that –he emphasized—so he called to renew efforts from the state government, to the University of Guanajuato and civil society.
At the ceremony held in the "Secundaria Técnica 23," first venue of CINUG, also attended the Sub-secretary of Higher Education of Guanajuato, M. René Jaime Rivas, the rectors of campus, High School College Director, representatives from the board and UG's patronage, university functionaries, students, professors and administrative personnel from the house of studies.
Also present were the majors from Atarjea and Victoria, Prof. José Luis Rivas Loyola and Prof. Héctor Teodoro Montes Estrada, respectively; representatives from the municipal presidencies of Doctor Mora, San José Iturbide, San Luis de la Paz, Santa Catarina and Xichú, as well as the Director of the "Secundaría Técnica 23" of Tierra Blanca, M. Sergio Homero Martínez Castillo.
