Guanajuato, Gto., April 21, 2016.- Next June, the first generation from the degree in Performing Arts will graduate; a degree taught since August 2012 in the Arts Building venue Marfil, from the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD) from Campus Guanajuato from the University of Guanajuato (UG).
The Coordinator of degree, M. Fernando Gutiérrez shared that "it is very satisfactory to see how they are nearly graduate, real people, under what in a moment was a long caressed dream," besides he informed that the degree lasts four years and emerges two profiles: specialized in dancing and specialized in acting.
In an interview, he remembered that the approval of this degree was a-year struggle, because it was an intention back in 1987, when they started –although didn't continue—the proposals and, in fact, the most serious work was in 2000, but only obtained the approval of the program until 2011.
In the approval, there was a particular relevance, the intervention and will of UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, who was then, Rector of Campus Guanajuato, said M. Martínez.
The academic program, said, is formed by a battery of subjects that guarantee the graduate profile: they have as a core subject, the subject of execution, where they learn to dance and acting techniques, as well as some subjects oriented to education, since they have the conviction that this is one of the work variants that can address, besides being executed in the same.
Likewise, another variant could go dedicated to scenic production, not necessarily be in the stage but do other things that a montage requires; they also have subjects that could orient the students towards writing such as script writing, although they are not really preparing dramaturgy.
The field of action would be then in education, the scenic execution, direction and another competence, the participation in cultural projects, because in this degree "we don't educate unemployed people", asserted M. Gutiérrez, even recognizing that the job market is difficult, "but there is," from professional national and international companies, but also in a city such as Guanajuato, which is a cultural center and doesn't have, until now, a core of professionals and productions at the level of diverse festivals and cultural seasons lived in the city.
The selection system for the applicants is very long and thorough, he said that is a two-week process, in which, the youth attend conferences and classes as part of the selection systems and make auditions in the second week. They try to be very thorough since they consider that the necessary qualities in this type of degree are not proven in just one exam.
Besides, in the applicant profile they ask (ideally) to have experience, be clear about their calling and have high education "well set," because the degree has a large theory load, even higher than other institutions that teach the same degree.
The Coordinator of the degree revealed that there is an increasing demand, since the first generation had 70 applicants, the second climbed to 105, the third to 115, the fourth to 128 and the last data they have, surpasses 140, but the capacity is limited, between 20 and 24 applicants.
This is when the Arts building was approved as a project and even began constructing, the Performing Arts program wasn't approved and since the enrollment has grown, there is little space left, but fortunately they are beginning an expansion of one more floor, he revealed.
It is worth mentioning that the degree in Performing Arts has a schooled system. Seventy-three subjects compose the study plan with a total of 300 credits, and the school periods are semiannual. Their contents integrate both theoretical and technical formation; the graduate is, mainly, someone competent in the conception, conceptualization and conduction of scenic projects, responsible for their social and esthetic consequences.
