León, Gto., April 28, 2016.- A group of 14 students from the University of Guanajuato Campus León, made an academic residence at Fermilab (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory) –the second most powerful particle accelerator in the world—located in Batavia Illinois, US.

The students from the Division of Science and Engineering, prepared in a year to go into the residence, they planned, designed, built, tested and characterized small prototypes of detection of cosmic rays in the laboratory of elemental particles.

The students created prototypes that allowed to learn physics using their own equipment to count the flux of cosmic particles that reach earth by unit of area or unit of time between other applications.

Fermilab is the second largest laboratory of physics in its specialty and the laboratory "Silicon detector laboratory" was assigned to make research works from the students who had the support of the host professors Dr. Deborah Harris, Dr. Kevin McFarland, Dr. Gastón Gutierrez and Dr. Jorge Morfin.

In addition of making more research in the highest level, the students visualized where science is developing towards in the world, especially in physics of experimental high energies, in the area of physics of neutrinos. In the same way, the experience of the stay allows them to decide about their academic future and know they are competent in an international level.

The group integrated by Alfredo Martínez Vega, Aurora Cecilia Araujo Martínez, Carlos Andrés Cervantes Vera, Diego Armando Andrade Aldana, Everardo Granados Vázquez, Francisco Javier Rosas Torres, Gerardo de Jesús Rodríguez Becerra, Jazmín Sánchez Sánchez, Jordán de Jesús Ortiz Villanueva, Karla Natalia Herrera Guzmán, Luis Jorge Arceo Miquel, Miguel Ángel Hernández Morquecho, Oscar Eduardo Moreno Palacios, and Raúl Alejandro Gutiérrez Sánchez advised by professor Julián Félix; professor-researcher of the Division of Science and Engineering.

It is worth mentioning that the students who made the residency at Fermilab belong to degree and postgraduate programs of Physics from the Division of Science and Engineering.

At the University of Guanajuato, we build trajectories that inspire.
