Guanajuato, Gto., April 28, 2016.- With the commitment of total support from the University of Guanajuato (UG) for initiatives that emerge regarding respect for the environment and sustainability, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández. Rector of Campus Guanajuato, inaugurated the First Regional Forum in the matter of Waste and Generation of Alternate Energy.

Such forum which developed in the auditorium of Campus Guanajuato, venue Marfil, organized by the University of Guanajuato through the Program of Environmental Handling and Sustainability, and Guanajuato's Municipal government, through the "Dirección General de Medio Ambiente."

In his inaugural message, Dr. Corona Fernández remembered that the University of Guanajuato has several work years in the matter, and aware of the urgency to from professionals in that area, they created the degree in Environmental Engineering.

Likewise, he remarked that the System of Environmental Management (SGA) of the University of Guanajuato, has the background of the System of Environmental Handling (SMA) which began in 2001 with the signing of the collaboration agreement between UG, the "Instituto de Ecología del Estado de Guanajuato (IEEG)" and the (then) "Procuraduría de Protección al Ambiente del Estado de Guanajuato".

Rector Corona Fernández mentioned, that Campus Guanajuato, work with different projects of water care, waste water treatment, responsible usage of electrical energy and integral handling of waste, recognizing that the generation of residues is a very wide problem with different angles which requires full responsibility and commitment of all actors in society.

That is where the importance of this forum comes from, that links the public sector, government and university to find measures to revert the negative impact on the environment of the generation of waste, concluded Dr. Corona.

Equally, Dr. Juan Angel Mejía Gómez, responsible of the environmental program of the University of Guanajuato, referred to the institutional commitment in the matter and celebrated the conjunction of efforts from the governmental sector as well the business sector, while the deputy Ma. Soledad Ledezma Constantitno, representative of the state Congress, spoke about the initiatives of the bills that have entered, and the progress to contribute in the environmental improvement.

Representing the Municipal President of Guanajuato, Édgar Castro, was the Lic. Carlos Torres Ramírez, and assisted from the "Procuraduría Ambiental y de Ordenamiento Territorial del Estado de Guanajuato", Lic, Aarón Rodríguez Cervantes and Lic. Juana Rangel Martínez, responsible of the IEEG's office.
