Irapuato, Gto. April 28, 2016.- The solid formation of the students from the University of Guanajuato (UG), allows them to excel in regional contests such as the recent "College Bowl", a contest of knowledge in Food Chemistry, Microbiology and Bioprocesses, held in Querétaro.
Alejandro Villareal Romero, Karen Rodríguez Barboza and Karen Estefania Montecillos, who are in the 6th semester of Food engineering at Campus Irapuato-Salamanca from UG, obtained the third place of the mentioned contest, organized by the Student Chapter of the Insitute of Food Technologists (IFT), from the "Instituto Superior de Monterrey (ITESM) Campus Querétaro.
College Bowl is a competition that evaluates the knowledge of students from the degrees in engineering in Food industries in the topics of food chemistry, bioprocesses, thermodynamics and unit operations, with the purpose to promote among the students, an ambiance of healthy competition, team work and organization.
Alejandro Villareal explained that, teams from the host institution participated, ITESM, and as guests were UG and students from the "Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Irapuato (ITESI) from several cities from the state of Guanajuato. The contest consisted in three rounds of five questions, each one related with specific themes from food industry.
Another group member, Karen Estefanía Montecillos said to be very proud of representing her university and see how competitive they are against other institutions.
Alejandro and Karen Estefanía are from Irapuato. Their peer, Karen Rodríguez, lives in the city of Salamanca.
During their time in Querétaro, they were accompanied by M. Everardo Mares, who is a professor at the Department of Food. Furthermore, professor Eleazar Barboza Corona, was who made the first contact with the IFT group and professors Rosario Abraham and Maria Elena Sosa, were excited to participate in the contest. They all expressed their gratitude.
