Guanajuato, Gto., May 1, 2016.- With the objective to provide a forum for analysis, discussion and exchange of experiences on recent research, as well as planning solutions for practical cases, began the XXV International Congress do Extractive Metallurgy, Material and Environment, in this edition, honoring Dr. Fathi Habashi, emeritus professors of the University of Quebec.

Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, Rector of Campus Guanajuato from the University of Guanajuato, inaugurated the works from this encounter, hosted by the Division of Engineering and the Department of Mines.

In his message, Dr. Corona said that being May 1st the day to celebrate work, it was necessary to speak about responsibilities and commitments that the extractive companies have with their workers and community in general; historically, mining has been one of the most dangerous and prejudicial activities for workers' health.

"The University of Guanajuato gives a warm and respectful tribute to all mine workers who have contributed so that the city that today holds this Congress, to be a point for History and Culture of Mexico", he said, at the same time as watching that it is significant that this encounter has in sight to create preventive measures and ecological remediation, since, the footprint is inherent to any human process, in the case of the extractive industry, the damage is exponential.

"Aware of it and with the topic of the Congress, we're in path of the protection of environment, the University of Guanajuato declares its availability to contribute in the instrumentation of linked actions with these problems," held Dr. Javier Corona, who congratulated the organizers of the Congress for assuring this enclosure in the capital and exhorted the students to take advantage of the presence of specialists.

It is worth mentioning that the International Congress of Extractive Metallurgy (CIME), Materials and Environment is an event that began organizing in the University of Sonora approximately 25 years ago. With time, other educational institutions, have participated in the organization of the event.

Every event is done in honor to a celebrity who has shone in the area of metallurgy, this time the XXV CIME is made to honor Prof. Fathi Habashi, who is an Emeritus professor of Extractive Metallurgy in the University of Laval in Quebec, and it is a member of the Canadian Institute of Mines, Metallurgy and Oil (1998).

In addition of the presence of Prof. Habashi, the XXV CIME will have the following special guests, important celebrities in the area of metallurgy and materials: Dr. Agustín Gómez Álvarez (México), Dr. Rafael Ramírez Bon (Mexico), Dr. Maria Dolores Durruthy Rodríguez (Cuba), and Dr. Dirk Van Zyl (Canada).

At the opening ceremony assisted also Dr. Luis Enrique Mendoza Puga, Director of the Division of Engineering; M. Federico Vogel González, Director of the Department of Mines; and Dr. Antonio Vega Corona, Subsecretary of Innovation, Science and Higher Education in representation of the state governor, M. Miguel Márquez.
