From July 31 to August 6 in Guanajuato, there will be Science Clubs, courses taught by researchers in Mexico and US.
Guanajuato, Gto., May 16, 2016. The University of Guanajuato (UG) will be the host of the Science Clubs in Mexico, where high school and undergraduate students will have the opportunity to take intensive courses with instructors from renowned educational institutions, whose finality is to form generations of innovative scientists and create collaboration networks between youth and consolidated researchers.
The Clubs were created with the objective for the scientists to share their knowledge with the youth in a ludic manner, through experiments and field work, but with the scientific strictness the addressed topics demand.
Questions such as, how does the ordered movement of flocks or fish banks emerge? What is the butterfly effect? And, why does maguey end in mezcal and the grape in wine? Those will be some of the phenomena addressed at the Clubs that will occur in the facilities of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences of UG's Campus Guanajuato.
Due to the demand that the event had in past years, this time, there will be eleven clubs, with topics as: "Complexity: Between order and chaos", "Organic electronic devices", "Virus, lethal microscopic machines!" o "Insects in our food: the influence of co-evolution in the flavor of plants."
It will have the participation of researchers such as Dr. Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado, from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), specialist in regenerative medicine, together with David Ángeles Albores, from Caltech, will analyze planarian, a plant with an impressive regenerative ability, to which they'll compare with organisms that lack this ability. To understand this phenomenon, in the club, they'll use genetic, optic and computing techniques.
The Nobel Prize of Physics 2014, Franz Wilczek participated in the design of "Exploring the senses: Science and Technology!". In this club, who Clark Alexander, professor at Depaul, is responsible, and Rodolfo Ferro, UG student, the youth will explore how the animal, the human and robot vision is; they'll learn about the biology of vision, electrical circuits, logic and its relation with the senses.
According with the summon, on May 30th is the deadline to request admittance; whoever is interested should select the Clubs of interest and explain why they want that experience.
In Guanajuato, the Science Clubs will occur from July 31st to August 6th. For more information about the requirements, dates and details of the events, please visit:
