Celaya, Gto., May 17, 2016.- In the International Day of Nursing, the Pan-American Organization of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO), as part of their efforts to progress through universal health, they made the teleconference named "La transformación y potencial de la educación en enfermería en la Región de las Américas hacia la Salud Universal."

The University of Guanajuato (UG) was invited to participate in this activity for being an institution of the country members and for their collaboration with the organization.

The talk was about transforming the education and practice of Nursing through different mechanisms such as update the study programs to address better the needs of primary attention of health in the population, incorporate the inter-professional education, adopt advanced practice programs; promote postgraduate studies and offer opportunities of continuous education to professionals in this branch.

On the matter, Dr. Ma. Gloria Calixto Olalde, Coordinator of the postgraduates of the Division of Health Sciences and Engineering and promoter of the activity, explained that UG is in the right path "however, being a Nursing national referent, we cannot sit and wait, we have to create strategies to continue with the boost of Nursing in the country, the challenge this moment is to generate more professionals with a master and doctorate degree."

A calling with pride

M. Maria de Lourdes García, full-time professor from Campus Celaya-Salvatierra, explained that working with preterm infants is her passion, "I'm proud of being a nurse, and I have combined the practice with teaching". She advises her students to put themselves in the place of the others and have empathy, "nurses are the heart and soul of care" she sustained.

While for Nancy, Sarahí and Jimena is a pride not only to form in the care of the ill, support humanitarian causes and provide support for the community, but be part of the UG community.
