Guanajuato, Gto., MAy 21, 2016.- Each year, scholars from the "Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo" (UMSNH) visited the University of Guanajuato (UG) to celebrate the special session of the National Seminar of History of the University and Education, in which, since 2011, participate professors from UG, particularly from the Department of Education and the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies (DCSH).
Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, Rector of Campus Guanajuato, highlighted the importance of a seminar that covers the history of the University, since this, as few, he said, is an institution that has resisted the onslaught of centuries and has had great importance in the social confirmation of the country: "understanding the way in which the universities generate knowledge and transmit it also, it allows us to know how they've changed the mentalities, the scientific paradigms, the ideas."
He also exposed that this seminar is a sample of the collaboration that has existed for some years between both universities, in different academic areas, and expressed his interest in which this bond continues to strengthen with other liaison activities.
The history of the seminar
The National Seminar of History of the University and Education (originally called Seminar of History of Education) born at the late 90's in UMSNH by initiative of Dr. Silvia Figueroa Zamudio (Director of the Faculty of History and the Historical Archive back then and then Rector of the Institution). And for 15 years, in which have participated also professors from UG of the areas of Education, Music, Design, History and Architecture.
The dynamic of this space consists on developing monthly sessions in which the works the own members of the seminar develop are presented. The objective is that, with the group's contributions, these works get to be solid research products: talks, conferences, articles, book or thesis chapters, etc., towards the general topic of history of education and the university.
Dr. Cirila Cervera Delgado, professor of the Department of Education, commented that every month, professors and even students from UG move to the city of Morelia to participate in the seminar, and once a year, in May, UG is host of the encounter. Eventually, it also has the participation of researchers from the "Universidad Nacional Autonóma de México", "Colegio de Michoacán" and other higher education institutions of the country.
In the special session made at UG, both the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, as M. Luis Jesús Ibarra Manrique, Director of the Department of Education from DCSH, welcomed to UG to Dr. Sergio García Ávila, Director of the Historical Archive and Center of Studies on the Nicolaita Culture from UMSNH; to M. Neiffe Valencia Calderón, Coordinator of National Seminar of History from the University and Education from the same institution, and the rest of the members of the study group.
On his part, Dr. Sergio García Ávila thanked the hospitality from UG authorities for the development of activities in this research seminar, that in UMSNH already reached 18 years of existence and 15 of having enriched with the participation of the professors at UG.
