ug-fomenta-el-deporte-a-traves-de-la-charreria-ug-ugto-universidad-de-guanajuatoGuanajuato, Gto., May 24, 2016.- With the multidisciplinary project "Charrería UG" from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, they promote this discipline as a national sport and offer healthy activities for the youth in the community El Copal, located in the city of Irapuato.

Not only is the cultural part or sport activity of charrería which attracts the attention of people, but the "churros & escaramuzas are the third force of the army", so "you are part of the army and of the country," affirmed María Fernanda Tornero, student of Agronomy in the University of Guanajuato and Coordinator of the project.

"My father planted on me the taste for charrería and I know to dress as a charro is dressing as Mexico", sustained Maria Fernanda Tornero. However, this project goes beyond her personal interest, since the beginning she was convinced that charrería could benefit the students, the university and the society in general.

In "Charrería UG" participate students from the degrees in Agribusiness, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechny; from Environmental Engineering, and Agronomy Engineering. The project has several currents: the social, where they crown the UG Charra Queen; the creation of two charro teams and the creation of the University Charro Patronage, the latter with the purpose to get resources that allow the construction of a charro ring in El Copal.

This year they pretend to form a new group of escaramuzas, and teach them from riding, until making the movements and typical crosses at high speeds at the tune of Mexican music, preferably mariachi.

Trainings are hard, and they follow strict rules with the clothing, because it is a suit that represents the Mexican traditions, explained the student of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca.

State and Federal Support

To consolidate the project of Charrería, UG donated a land that has the regulatory federal measures to participate in this discipline, and with this they'll seek support from the associations in the state to obtain a scaffold and begin the construction of the charro ring, which will allow students to train in an adequate and safe space.

Maria Fernanda Tornero added that with the support from university authorities, they are making arrangements so the students in Agricultural Mechanical Engineering, make the boxes for the animals, since the scaffolding wouldn't be safe nor sure.

These accomplishments will benefit the habitants of El Copal, a zone with high indexes of alcoholism. When the youth in this community involve in the Charrería project, they would avoid problems derived from leisure time, develop healthier habits, and El Copal will have a space to practice sports, explains the student.

Finally, she invited all the university community to be part of this project, that will allow to know new experiences through training and the competences, and share the passion for charrería.
