León, Gto., May 30, 2016.- In the Department of Social Studies was developed the panel "Implications of the legalization of the use of marihuana", organized by the "Colegio de Médicos Generales de Guanajuato A.C.", where they addressed the transcendence of the topic and the different scenarios that should consider those promoting the law.
In the forum made in Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), six specialists explain the aftermath of the reform in the health sector, as well as in the social, business, legal and political areas.
One of the panelists, Dr. Jacobo Herrera, professor-researcher of Campus León, emphasized in the absence of arguments from who promotes it and those who reject the use of marihuana, as well as the information holes in treating the topic.
The social psychologist addressed the subject from five topics: legal issues, education, social coexistence, medical and research use and responsible use of the substance. "We cannot release a product so delicate without considering the risks, and before doing so we must insert in the educative systems the real pros and cons of this type of substance", he manifested.
Likewise, exposed the social perceptions and the forms of associating the consumer to the substance with illegal practices, furthermore, he emphasized the lack of studies on legal products that have not been controlled, such as alcohol and tobacco, as well as their impact in health and social coexistence.
He also mentioned the high index of traffic accidents because of the consumption of alcohol and retook the results from the National Query of Addictions, which places the marihuana as the most consumed substance in the country, despite a decrease in its consumption.
Another aspect considered by Dr. Jacobo was the scenario that is being lived in the countries that have approved the consumption of the substance, such is the case of Uruguay and England and the implications of doing so. "If we are going to compare with those first world countries, we must do so comprehensively, review the educative, social, and health aspects and analyze several indicators", he expressed.
Lastly, Dr. Jacobo Herrera thanked the organizers for the invitation, as well as the other panelists for their enriching interventions and invited all the attendees to reflect on the topic.
