Guanajuato, Gto., June 6, 2016. Whilst giving the conference "Freedom of expression in the contemporary journalism", Dr. Guadalupe Mar Vázquez exposed the social impact of the communicators, that allows to "construct citizenship" and submit the public power to the citizen scrutiny.

Within activities of the Day of the Freedom of Expression in Mexico, the journalist and scholar from the "Universidad Veracruzana" was at the University of Guanajuato (UG) to talk and invite to participate in the summon for the National Award of Journalism, where she performs as President of the jury.

Dr. Guadalupe Mar pointed in first place that the freedom of press is an indispensable premise in a democratic system. It is a right –she cleared—not only belongs to journalists, but to all citizens.

After recognizing the difficult panorama there is in Mexico to perform research journalism, said that one consequence of the guild is to be threatened by self-censorship, which not only damages the journalists, but the society in general.

She emphasized that the democracy requires informed citizens, and these are, who joins the journalists, can achieve "silent revolutions", meaning, cultural and social changes.

Therefore, explained the importance to recognize the professionals that, despite the political or commercial interests, they make and effort and risk to make a journalism work which truly contributes to inform and create conscience among the citizens.

At the end of the talk, Dr. Guadalupe Mat received a recognition from the university community, which was handed by the Director of Communication and Liaison from UG, M. Margarita Arenas Guzmán.

Dr. Mar Vázquez is Doctor in History and Regional Studies by the "Universidad Veracruzana", institution where she performs as a full-time professor in the Faculty of Sciences of Communication.

In the journalist ambiance, has worked as chief of correspondence from "Diario Polítca", has also collaborate in Televisiva Veravisión de Oriente and in Television Azteca of Veracruz. For more than 10 years she writes a column in the "Diario de Xalapa" and in Alcalorpolítico.com. In 2008 she received the recognition for the Professional Trajectory of the Club "Primera Plana" for 25 years of journalist work.
