
Salamanca, Gto. June 7, 2016.-For the recent commemoration of the Day of the Environment, Salamanca's City Hall and the University of Guanajuato closed the ranks to perform reforestation actions in the Division of Engineering (DICIS) in Salamanca and in the "Centro Mexicano de Energías Renovables (CEMER)."
Civil and educative authorities accompanied by students of the Advanced System of High School and Higher Education (SABES), the National College of Professional Technical Education (CONALEP) and the University of Guanajuato (UG) began planting 200 trees from the species "palo blanco", "tabachin", "mesquite" and "palo negro", donated the government of Salamanca.
The goal is to plant 1,000 trees in the Division of Engineering, explained his director, Dr. Roberto Rojas Laguna. At the same time, CEMER's Director, Dr. Jesús Martínez Patiño mentioned that the Maximum House of Studies has a program to save energy and a program of environment management, proving with it, their commitment in this subject.
The Director of Environment and Sustainability from UG, Dr. Juan Ángel Mejía Gómez pointed out that in terms of sustainability, the natural resources must be enough for the generations to come, hence, he invited to reflect on the consequences of overexploitation of resources and the effect of pollution, that demand labor of environmental protection.
The responsible of the office of the Institute of Ecology, Luis Fabián Ortiz Trillo, reminded the slogan of the Day of the Environment which was past June 5th "The Future of the wild life is in our hands" highlighting that Guanajuato has 33% of richness in birds in the country, 16% of mammals, and 13% of plants and 10% of reptiles. This means that its biodiversity is moderately high with more than 3,000 species of flora and fauna, similar to the larger states such as Coahuila and Nuevo León.
Salamanca's Mayor, Eng. Antonio Arredondo Muñoz remarked that the environmental remediation requires the government and society to be together. During their visit to DICIS was accompanied by the president of the Commission of Environment from the City Hall, Guillermo de la Madrid and by the General Director of Environment, biologist María del Carmen Mejía Alba.
During the tree planting journey, the youth from high-school and university participated enthusiastic in this task, aware that every tree they plant will be the fingerprint for next generations.
