
Guanajuato, Gto., June 14, 2016. The University of Guanajuato works in the rescue and restoration of the building that housed the clinic of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) for thirty years and that in 2015 was given on loan to the House of Studies to create a university museum.
According to the project, the museum –located in front of the Teatro Principal, city's downtown—will have three levels, in a surface approximately one thousand square meters. It will have fix and itinerant expos and the patio will be prepared for conferences and concerts, "to bring life to this space" explained the Director of Infrastructure and College Services, M. Eloy Juárez Sandoval.
The terrace will have a green area, open expos and rest zone with view to the Pipila and the adjacent temples so the visitor can enjoy of the urban stamp of the city he added.
The university museum will be the ideal space to exhibit paintings from the centuries XVIII, XIX and XX that are part of UG's acquis; archeological prices, that are currently in the Museum of Minerology and other university enclosures such as the Museum of Natural History Alfredo Dugès.
An important feature of the project is that "the very same house will be a museum", detailed M. Eloy Juárez. It means, the visitors not only appreciate the works that are exhibited, but the characteristics of a c. XVIII house with the edification processes of that time.
On the matter, informed that the property belonged to the Ezcurdia family, and UG managed to contact one of the members, Mrs. Teresa Funes Ezcurdia, who accompanied the responsible of the restoration project in a tour by the house, where she explained the uses each room had before turning it into a hospital. This way, they could keep elements of the original construction.
The property is part of the property catalogue of the Heritage of Humanity, so the authorities of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) constantly supervise, because the intention is to preserve the building "for pleasure and enjoyment of future generations", quoted M. Juárez Sandoval.
Currently, the second stage of the project is being worked on, the first consisted in restoring the facade and fixing the doors, ironwork and stonework. In this second stage, they consider an investment superior to the 12.5 million MXN pesos, contribution of the federal, state governments and the University of Guanajuato.
