Guanajuato, Gto., June 17, 2016.- With an exposition of sketches, furniture, ornamental objects, models and executive projects, students from Interior Design from the University of Guanajuato (UG) showed that the interior function is not only to create cozy and beautiful spaces, but functional and adequate to the life styles, to the needs and desires of the client, with total respect of the environment.
The show was made as part of the course finish of the January-June semester, the students from Interior Design from the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD) from Campus Guanajuato presented the projects made in different subjects and workshops during the school cycle.
For three days, from the youngest applicants to enter the degree of Interior Design –who made the propaedeutic course—going from students from the second, sixth and eighth semester and some parents, the notorious evolution that have through the semesters.
Students' evolution
M. Araceli Arrollo Rodríguez, Coordinator of the degree in Interior Design, explained that these exhibitions of work, have the objective to show the different phases that go through the students along early semesters; since in the second year (third and fourth semester) work with conceptual development projects; in the sixth semester the student enters the world of costs and prices and, in the last year, seventh and eighth semester, the students are trained to develop executive project to sell to a client.
On the other hand, the propaedeutic course has the objective to prepare the youth to solve their admission exam the best way possible, for which the work exhibited have the premise of the development of an idea parting from certain indications and exercises of creativity made under time.
Preparation for the work life
One of the aspects that try to reinforce in the degree is that since early semesters, the students are capable to link with artisans or micro-business men for, from the area of design, add to their products or services a value; this is the case of the subject "Introductory social practice" (taken in the 2nd semester); on the matter, M. David Rincón, professor of the area, commented that the students have to go with the carpenters, blacksmiths, ceramists, basket weavers, cardboard collectors, etcetera and offer them some kind of collaboration project.
"The work resulted from this project are valuable because the guys go many times to their places of origin, the get close to an artisan and make them proposal, but the first contact is made by them. Besides, they make a commitment letter with the artisan. This new educational model, seeks for the student to have skill in expressing, communication of ideas, and be capable of generating a proposal to carry them out."
From the subject "Basic professional practice" (4th semester), where they develop a project for which they must be in touch with a real client (business or particular) and generate a design proposal, but without having in mind budgets, until the "Workshop of business management" (8th semester) where they have developed a project where they have done the analysis, budget and development and presentation of proposals.
All the work exhibited are presented by the own students who created them, showed how each semester the complexity increases, from the merely conceptual until the delivery of an executive project, with the objective to prepare the students for the labor world.
Students that graduated from the degree commented that it is very important to make this projects already applied to real cases and with potential clients to link from the degree with the productive sectors and know how to charge for a project, hence, they were confident that the University of Guanajuato has prepared them to successfully insert in the professional world.
