Researches properties of materials employed in seismic and heavy traffic resistant bridges.

Celaya, Gto., June 25, 2016.- Othón Ortega Ruíz, student of the ninth semester of the degree in Civil Engineering of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra, will make a stay in the Sheffield University, England as part of a research project to prove that the diaphragm beams can resist a seismic event or unexpected weight in the public infrastructure.

The 5-week academic stay at Sheffield University allows him to develop a chapter of his thesis, named "Numeric simulation on the cut ends behavior in postponed beams."

The student from the University of Guanajuato (UG) will analyze, through a software, the method of finite elements with the finality to observe the work between the cut ends in the beams, "to see the flaws and avoid cracking in the bridges", he cleared.

It is worth mentioning that his interest in the topic emerged in the last Symposium of Engineering, with one of the speakers, Dr. Reyes García –from Sheffield University—who will advise Othón Ortega in the laboratories at the English institution.

This work derives from the research titled "Behaviors of cut ends on concrete beams" developed by Dr. Jatziri Moreno and Dr. Arturo Galván, to which Othón Ortega joined, and decided to make his thesis by integrating it to the project.

For Dr. Jatziri Moreno it is a very important academic achievement, because it is the opportunity for a young man to work in a first level laboratory, coexist and know experts in the area and in his return he can share his experience to motivate his peers.

For Othón Ortega means to be to study in another country, know another culture, develop his thesis and represent the students from his degree, and raise the name of the University of Guanajuato.

He thanked the Division of Health Sciences and Engineering, "they have supported me greatly and want to invite my peers to develop research and use the supports given" he expressed.
