Guanajuato, Gto., June 28, 2016.- Dr. Andrew Félix Boni Noguez, professor at the Department of Geomatics and Hydraulics Engineering from the Division of Engineering from Campus Guanajuato of UG, received one the awards granted by the Mexican Academy of Science (AMC for its acronym in Spanish) to the best doctorate thesis.
Thanks to the contributions of the research "Mining, conservation and indigenous rights. Territory and conflict in Catorce, San Luis Potosí", Dr. Boni Noguez received the AMC distinction in the area of Social Science 2015.
Dr. Boni Noguez made the postgraduate in Geography at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters from UNAM (2015). The thesis project was directed by Ph.D. Claudio Garibay Orozco. The research offers a geographical perspective to an actual case of territorial conflict provoked by a mining site project.
The selection and evaluation of the awarded works was formed by a jury from AMC, whose criteria were the originality, the rigor and importance in the scientific knowledge. To receive this distinction, you also must have the following requirements: in the case of women, to be under 40 years old and in case of men, not above age 38.
AMC's summon is done with nine representative institutions of social sciences and human studies in Mexico; the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, the Colegio de México, the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, the Centro de Investigaciones y Docencia Económicas, the Instituto José María Luis Mora, the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social, the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Avanzados from IPN, and the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia.

Dr. Andrew Boni Noguez is Doctor (Ph.D.) in Geography (2015), Master in Geography (2010) and Geology Engineer (2008), all at UNAM. Currently, his research is focused in problems regarding mining in Protected Natural Areas and also, has published in the topic of problems and territorial processes related with the mining industry.
