Guanajuato, Gto., June 29, 2016.- The Choir of the University of Guanajuato (UG) enthralled the audience at the Teatro Principal with a concert where they presented song from the Renaissance, mostly written by Juan del Encina.

At the event gathered both the university community and the public to appreciate the event, same that is part of the artistic programming done by the Direction of Cultural Extension from UG.

The university group is composed by diverse voice tones, they pleased with their interpretative beauty under the baton of their director, M.A. José Francisco Martínez, who was also responsible of interpreting the melodies through the sound of a harpsichord.

The concert was named "El tañer con el cantar", the first song the attendees could hear was the "Hoy comamos y bebamos" of Juan del Encina, followed by works from the same composer among which stand out: "Señora hermosura", "Ay triste que vengo", "Pues que mi triste penar", just to mention some.

M. José Francisco Martínez mentioned that the repertoire is essentially based in love and heartbreak situations, that is the reason why is so touching.

It is precise to mention that Juan del Encina (1469-1530) was an artist who diversified the disciplines where he already worked, since he performed as a poet, musician and also wrote theater. Besides, it is considered as one of the most important figures of the Spanish polyphonic school due to the lyric level of the glosses and carols.

At the end of the concert, the members of the choir received a prolonged applause from the public, who thanked the melodious and soft tessituras aof their voices.

It is worth mentioning that the Choir of the University of Guanajuato, with a four-decade trajectory, contributes broadly in the diffusion of the choral repertoire, getting it closer to the most diver audiences, both in Guanajuato city as other cities and states, with a projection inside and outside the university.
