León, Guanajuato, July 2, 2016.- With the purpose of strengthening the scholarship program of the University of Guanajuato and so more students are benefited with financial support to continue their studies, they inaugurated the module of the store "Zona UG" in the city of León, located inside the mall "Altacia."

This initiative is due to the H. Patronage of the University of Guanajuato and the family of the recently deceased Engineer Alejandro Arena Torres Landa, who was a businessman with great social sense, hence, he always supported the state's public university. This time, with the donation of a space to establish the module "Zona UG."

In an opening ceremony, the General Rector of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, mentioned that this project has an enormous meaning since it represents a link with society and a place in which they can acquire elements of university identity. Besides, he emphasized that the module is not only a space for commercial trade but a place in which the University of Guanajuato makes present with all its values, since the profits derived from the store will be destines to the most needed students.

Equally, he highlighted that the University of Guanajuato will present in such enclosure at the city of León through the participation of diverse artistic groups who belong to the house of studies. Also, he recognized the patronage and the Arena family for making this project a reality.

The Rector of Campus León, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, indicated that the module "Zona UG" is a relevant proposal that proves the principles of the University of Guanajuato, a great institution, since all the resources will be for the own students, with the objective that the economic situation to not be a factor of school desertion.

On his part, CPA. Eduardo Arena Barroso, benefactor and member of the H. Patronage of the University of Guanajuato, remembered his father, Eng. Alejandro Torres Landa, because he inherited the love for education. In that sense, he distinguished that the Arena family will always be committed in contributing with the University of Guanajuato so its vision can be built every day.

To finalize, Eng. Salvador Arturo Salazar, President of the H. Patronage of the University of Guanajuato, extended a deep thank you to the Arena family and to the university authorities for making the "Zona UG" store to open in León and reiterated its two functions: Be a space to provide belonging to all the university community and at the same time, be a benefactor so the students may continue their educative development.

Afterwards, university authorities, Division and Departments directors, students, professors and workers from the University of Guanajuato cut the ribbon to formally inaugurate the module.

At the event were present, the Academic Secretary of the University of Guanajuato, Ph.D. José Luis Lucio Martínez; Secretary of Management and Development of the University of Guanajuato, M.A. Jorge Alberto Romero Hidalgo, the Academic Secretary of Campus León, Ph.D. Luxana Reynaga Ornelas, as well as Division, Department and High School Directors.
