Irapuato, Gto. July 5, 2016.- As part of the subject of Industrial Safety, 20 students from Food Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca from the University of Guanajuato (UG) received training in the H. Firefighter body of Irapuato.
The students from the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) learned to use and handle extinguishers, using the personal safety equipment and the use of tools depending on the type of event.
Engineer Silvia López Mendoza, professor of Food and Industrial Safety, informed that the young students learned the norm and necessary measures for civil safety and the addressing natural or provoked fires that put people's safety at risk.
In this way, they met the different type of extinguishers and their capacity, which the most common are from 2 to 5 kilos, same that had the opportunity to maneuver, although there is equipment with greater capacity.
The members of the firehouse trained the students in the use of the safety equipment they must wear and showed a toolbox that they take to address different events.
In addition, they told them about recent events where there was loss of human life, creating an awareness on prevention while working with flammable, dangerous or explosive substances and the safety systems against fires, as well as the alarms they must consider.
In Industrial Safety, whomever is responsible must know the blueprints of the facilities, precise aspects such as emergency exits, hydraulic installation, sanitary network, LP gas or natural gas network, electric energy, etc., there must be continuous inspections and practice reviews, place the required signs, prohibit smoking, besides having an evacuation plan, among other measures to observe.
