San Miguel de Allende, Gto., July 7, 2016.- The scenario of the city of Guanajuato was and has been the platform for the presence and development of the University life, as the General Rector of the University of Guanajuato (UG) highlighted during a lecture.
UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino gave the lecture "University & City" within activities of the IV National Congress of World Heritage of San Miguel de Allende.
Dr. Guerrero began with a brief historical tour of the institution and made public that the house of studies must be in a continuous process of transformation to address the environment's needs.
He reaffirmed that the concept of the university must broaden the spectrum of possibilities of the educational project, and explained the importance to offer a diversity of tasks of knowledge, because an institution must not be partial to only one discipline.
He remembered that from 1952, UG began to have a greater incidence in the artistic ambience, since it is when it transforms in a project that offers plurality in the offer. An example of this is the foundation of the Symphonic Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato (OSUG) and the "Entremeses Cervantinos", which were originated in the "Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC)."
Likewise, he mentioned that the Central Building is an emblematic enclosure for the university and the city, and since its construction has become an identity symbol inside and outside the university community.
To finalize, he exposed that UG has transited parting from the history of the city of Guanajuato, as well as the technological development of the same, which has allowed the diversification of its educational, cultural and artistic offer.
In the same way, he mentioned that the university projects are part of the traditions that Guanajuato has adopted through time. It is worth mentioning that the IV National Congress of World Heritage of San Miguel de Allende is a forum for dialogue on the value of the world heritage from Mexico and Guanajuato.
