Guanajuato, Gto. July 7, 2016.- Ph.D. Yann René Ramos Arroyo, researcher from the Department of Geomatics and Hydraulics Engineering from the Division of Engineering of Campus Guanajuato, participated in the Congress "Arsenic in the Environment" done in Stockholm, Sweden, by the end of June.

With the project titled "Arsenic release from mining residue deposits in the community La Aurora, mining district of Xichú: characterization and remedy", describes the problem that the "pulls" of Xichú to the river Santa Maria represent and propose actions to minimize the release of arsenic.

It is worth mentioning that in the mentioned congress specialists around the work gather to argue aspects on the presence and origin of the arsenic in the environment, health risks and plan treatment methods. They are recognized as the main zones in the world with the presence of arsenic countries such as India, Bangladesh, Argentina, Chile and Mexico.

In a brief interview, Ph.D. Ramos Arroyo commented that in Mexico are various zones where they recognize the presence of arsenic, mainly associated to mining activities and overexploitation of aquifers. He also mentioned that in addition of the presented research in the congress at Sweden it still is in process and there is a coordination with the municipal authorities of Xichú to search the mechanisms to address this problem.
