This apparently empty space is the object of study of the astronomers. Thanks to the invention of the telescope is how the human beings can discover a little of the immense universe and now we have the opportunity to admire the sky.

The Observatory "La Azotea" of the University of Guanajuato is an open place for society, with the purpose for them to approach and learn to see the sky from different perspectives.

The study of the celestial bodies of the universe, has been present in the University of Guanajuato for a while back. In an interview, Ph.D. Trinidad mentioned that there is an ancient telescope used by the State College. "Since then there were observations with a professional instrument. Speaking of the most recent time of the Observatory, this was encouraged by the engineer Miguel Izaguirre in the 70's."

In that time there were no astronomers that dedicated to the Observatory until 1999 when the Department of Astronomy was commissioned to be responsible of such space and was called Obervatorio "La Azotea", because it is in the roof of the central building of the University of Guanajuato.

Currently this Observatory has the attendance of two technicians that every night they are responsible for guiding the visitors through the majesties revealed by the telescopes. In addition, in the Observatory they give certain talks of scientific divulgation throughout the academic year.

"In these talks, we address all the knowledge areas of Astronomy: from formation, evolution and death of stars. We also speak about galaxies, the universe in a large scale, cosmology, astro-chemistry, exobiology. All this from an observational and theoretical point of view. We transmit these topics with an accessible language, since we receive elementary kids to college students from different disciplines and public," said Ph.D. Trinidad.

The Observatory "La Azotea" is open to public from 18:00 to 00:00 hours. When there are group visits, they require a previous appointment. For more information and contact, please visit the site: www.astro.ugto.mx
