Guanajuato, Gto., July 23, 2016. Starting from the school cycle in August, the University of Guanajuato (UG) will offer the program of Baccalaureate with International Profile (BTPI for its acronym in Spanish) in the two high schools located in the city of León. This way, they'll double the number of schools with this plan of studies.
Currently, BTPI is taught in two out ten high schools from the house of studies. In Guanajuato, it is oriented to Science of Materials, and in Salamanca, to Mechatronics.
In the case of the high schools in León, the specialization areas could be biomedical, sustainable organic chemistry, environmental engineering, electronics and shoe and/or fashion design. "This depends of the formalization of the international liaison with educational institutions and businesses from other countries", explained the principal of HS León, M.A. Luis Ernesto González González.
These areas are pertinent in León for the medical services there are in the city, the importance it has in the industry of leather and shoes, and for the profile of foreign companies that are arriving to the state, he added.
HS in the San Miguel area has 25 young students confirmed for the BTPI and a similar number will be enrolled at HS Centro Histórico.
International Vision
One of the advantages of this baccalaureate program is the link with the education sector and foreign companies. The students enrolled in the BTPI have the opportunity to make stays and access advisories with Japanese professors –in the case of HS Guanajuato and Salamanca—or from Germany –country where the schools in León seek to establish collaboration agreements—.
M.A. Luis Ernesto González emphasized that the BTPI is a project that implies teamwork between UG's high and higher schools. "The subjects and their grade of specialization grant the liaison and allow mobility; the classes can be taken at the HS or in the higher education classrooms and laboratories" he detailed.
The flexibility of the plan allows the students to enroll in one of the venues, and finish in another. This, in case that during their time through the common core the student decides, for example, to specialize in Mechatronics and not in Bio-medicine, or vice versa.
Another of the BTPI's benefits is that the graduate of this program can opt to insert in the labor market when finishing their studies, continue them for two more years to obtain the degree of University Superior Technician or advance until concluding the degree.
Along their formation, the student complements the knowledge with practice and establishes cultural exchange links with other nations, "which undoubtedly positively impacts in the comprehensive formation of our students. This reaffirms UG's commitment with society and contributes so the university still is active and vanguard" concluded the principal of HS León.
