Guanajuato, Gto., July 25, 2016. With the intention to ease the access to higher education to youth from zones with high educational gaps, the University of Guanajuato (UG) created the Program of Regional Equity, that starting from the next school cycle will open spaces in the four university campuses, and includes a scholarship that will cover all the living expenses.
For this project, the House of Studies work in coordination with the Department of Education of Guanajuato (SEG), dependency that was in charge of evaluating the students –through a social-economic analysis and the academic trajectory—. UG is responsible for the admission process, and will grant a scholarship that will cover the food, transport and lodging expenses. In addition, they won't pay inscription, a financial aid that will remain until the student finishes the college formation.
The General Rector of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, explained that the objective of the House of Studies is not only to broaden the enrollment, but do it in a regional equity perspective. So, the school cycle that begins in August will have students from cities such as Victoria, Xichú and Santa Catarina in the thirteen divisions of UG.
Dr. Guerrero Agripino cleared that is not about academic excellence scholarships, because the commitment of the benefited students –besides keeping the status as UG student—will be to work in projects that positively impact in their communities of origin.
In the same sense, to strengthen UG's presence in the cities where there is no venue, the General Rector revealed that they'll seek to open University Houses, where they will offer extension, language, art, and culture courses and diverse programs of Continuous Education that will allow a greater link with society.
