
Guanajuato, Gto., July 26, 2016.- Thanks to the coordinated work of university and municipal authorities, this Wednesday, the Extension Unit Cuerámaro from the University of Guanajuato opens its doors, and will benefit the youth in the city, the region and public in general.
This university space began negotiating since June 2013, when Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, back then Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities and the then Municipal President of Cuerámaro, Dr. Gerardo Elizarrarás Vela (2012-2015) and manifested the intention to start a common project that will extend the presence of the University of Guanajuato in that city.
The project of the Language Center began after a pertinence study, given the large amount of transnational businesses located in the zone that could need personnel with domain of English. They also considered the number of high school graduates and the public interest.
This is how in 2015 the collaboration project began in two classrooms of the Culture's House "Salvador Contreras" that Cuerámaro's City Hall gave in bailment. At first they offered basic English courses for adults and two Saturday courses, addressed by three professors and one secretary from the University of Guanajuato.
Since the beginning, the major's commitment was to deliver a specific space for the language center and, to fulfill it, they donated a land of 20,000 sq. for the construction of the venue Cuerámaro, plus the later contribution, of 2 million pesos for the construction of two classrooms, one office and three bathrooms.
Extension Unit Cuerámaro is located five minutes away from the bus central in the city, very close to the Gerontology Hospital, Central Library and sport spaces in the city. Meaning, it is a strategic place, accessible to everyone.
In the next semester, the new facilities will be alive. The current enrollment of the language courses goes from 100 to 400 enrolled students, besides it foresees the future offer of courses, diplomas and seminars taught by the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities.
