Cuerámaro, Gto., July 27, 2016. Authorities from the University of Guanajuato (UG) and municipal government inaugurated the facilities of the Extension Unit Cuerámaro, space where they will offer language courses and they intend to hold diplomas and seminars through the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities.

At the ceremony, UG's Director of Liaison, Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro, gave a message representing the General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, where he ratified the commitment of the House of Studies to extend its presence in the state and address society's demands.

The Extension Unit Cuerámaro offers –since 2015—basic English courses for adults and Saturday classes, because after a pertinence study, it was determined that the businesses that have settles in the region demand the domain of the English language.

During the opening event, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, recognized the support from the municipal authorities to start this project. He reminded that it was Cuerámaro's ex-governor, Dr. Gerardo Elizarrarás Vela, who began the negotiations to have this university space, and the current municipal president, Lic. Moises Muñoz Cortés, also gave support for the project.

In the same sense, the Director of the Division of Social Science and Humanities from Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Aureliano Ortega Esquivel said that the Extension Unit Cuerámaro is a result from the cooperation of UG's authorities and two municipal administrations, hence, the trust that the project will be supported so it grows and consolidate, in benefit of the habitants of the region.

On his part, Cuerámaro's Municipal President celebrated that the University of Guanajuato offers these opportunities and reiterated the support for the educational projects proposed by UG, institution to which he referred as a "great ally".

Before having an own building, UG courses in the city were made in two classrooms of the House of Culture "Salvador Contreras", lent in bailment by the local government.

In a first stage, the university building includes two classrooms, an office and a module of sanitary services. An investment of $1,998,000 MXN was destined for these spaces. In addition, the city donated a 20,000 sq. land.

At the opening ceremony was also present the Administrative Coordinator of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, M.A. Carlos Alberto Jasso Martínez and the Academic Secretary of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Claudia Gutiérrez Padilla, among other members of the university community. Also attended functionaries from the city of Cuerámaro and members of the City Hall.
