
Guanajuato, Gto., July 29, 2016.- University of Guanajuato's (UG) Cinema Club together with the Collective SERes promote a more inclusive and more tolerant society in topics of gender diversity under the format of the 7th art through the movie cycle "Desde la otra banqueta" (From the other sidewalk).
This edition will be presented from August 1st to 7th and several topics were selected that represent the life of some of the characters of the LGBTTTI community as a form to know and make the society aware of respect and tolerance towards others.
The programming of the cycle has the screening of 20 movies such as "Tom en el granero" of Xavier Dolan, "Tangerine" of Sean Baker, "Billy Elliot" of Stephen Daldry, as well as the TV miniseries "Tipping the velvet" directed by Geoffrey Sax, which will be presented in the Auditorium Euquerio Guerrero and will have free entrance.
In a press conference, the Coordinator of UG's Cinema Club, Lic. María Monserrat Alejandri Oyanguren affirmed that is an open space for all the community, since the objective is to sensitize and remark the respect of the fundamental rights.
On her part, the Director of UG's Cultural Extension, Ph.D. Sarah Julsrud López mentioned the importance to respect and recognize gender equity; she highlighted that for the University is a pleasure to make the new edition of the cycle.
The executive director of the SERes Collective, CPA Juan Silverio Ramírez Urbina emphasized the great value of the participation from diverse institutions, since it joins the right to education from UG and the mission to make society's rights valid which are in Human Rights Procuratorate.
He added that cinema is a platform that allows to make aware the future generation so they can be more inclusive, generous and solidary with gender diversification.
It is important to mention that the 5th edition of "Desde la otra banqeueta", is done as a tribute for M.A. Jorge Pantoja Merino, who was the promoter of cinema at UG and also of this movie cycle.
The opening will be held next August 1st and will have the presence of UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino; the Human Rights Procurator from the State of Guanajuato, Lic. Gustavo Rodríguez Junquera; as well representatives from the LGBTTTI community.
