
Guanajuato, Gto., a 8 de agosto de 2016. The International Council of Organizations of Festivals of Folklore and Traditional Arts (CIOFF), with support from the University of Guanajuato (UG), bring to the state choreographies that display the traditional dance of Hungary, Russia, Canada and Slovakia.
The International Festival is held from August 8th to 14th, and is done simultaneously in 17 states in the country. In Guanajuato, the artistic group that will represent Mexico will the Folkloric Ballet of the University of Guanajuato (BAFUG), who has prepared a repertoire that includes sonnets from Veracruz, prehispanic dancing, potpourri from Chiapas and traditional dances from Guanajuato.
At the opening ceremony, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, highlighted that the traditions represent the expression, the memory and feelings of a town. As a University –he added— "we are convinced that the education must contribute to the strengthening, rescue and development of the identity of towns. This exercise must not be done in solitude; it is a process of shared creation."
He qualified the CIOFF Festival as an act that sisters with other towns through art, that constitute a universal language. Likewise, he said that this encounter of cultures represents an opportunity to "learn from whom visits us."
Representing the World CIOFF of Hungary, spoke Jozsef Solfzigetvari, who expressed his please to be in Guanajuato to show a part of his culture through dancing.
In his welcome message, the Municipal President of Guanajuato, Lic. Edgar Castro Cerrillo, congratulated the University of Guanajuato for their effort to bring to the city a wonderful cultural display where they can meet the folklore of Hungary, Russia, Slovakia and Canada.
In addition of the dance choreographies, in the festival they will show other popular arts such as singing, handcrafts, music and traditional games of each country. And will be held in venues such as the city of Guanajuato, San Luis de la Paz, San José Iturbide and Celaya.

The opening act of the Festival, which was held at the Teatro Juárez, attended as special guests, UG's Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa; the Academic Secretary, Dr. José Luis Lucio Martínez; the Director of Cultural Extension, Dr. Sara Julsrud López; BAFUG's Director, M.A. Roberto Martínez Rocha, and representatives from the diverse collegiate organs of the House of Studies.
Also attended the directors and members of the participant artistic groups, mayors of the cities such as San Luis de la Paz and San José de Iturbide, and state and municipal functionaries.
