UG's General Rector gave his first work report and officially welcomed the student community

Guanajuato, Gto., August 17, 2016. In a ceremony that rescues the tradition to welcome the students within the work report, the General Rector of the University of Guanajuato (UG) showed the results of his first year of governance, period that achieved an increase of 8% in the enrollment, created fundamental programs to favor the social inclusion, support the development of the academic personnel and set the bases of profound transformations that will define the path of the House of Studies.

After eleven months of his rector period, Dr. Guerrero showed that with the University's budget at the service of the academy, there was an increment of 40% in the fund for institutional scholarships, and in the budget for academic mobility, the support for 670 research projects and an investment of 264 million (MXN) in infrastructure.

When explaining these and other "transcendent achievements," he highlighted that they are the result of a collaborative work of a participative university community, with a deep sense of belonging and at the same time committed with its ambience, hence, he expressed his gratitude and recognition to all who have summed efforts to make UG a vanguard university with social relevance.

The firs themed axis of the annual report was constituted by the "Institutional Order", which implies a regulation reform, the update of the Academic Model and the Plan of Institutional Development (PLADI) 2010-2020 from the House of Studies. In this matter, the General Rector highlighted that the documents that give direction to UG are the result of the consensus between university men and from an important labor of the collegiate organs in charge of concluding the process.

When referring to the "Academic Axis," he sustained that the students are "the reason to be and the source of inspiration of all the university work," hence, he reaffirmed the commitment to increase the enrollment and favor equity. For example, in this first year, the Program of Regional Equity was set on march, a process that provides direct access to UG and an economic stimulus to outstanding students that lack resources to study, and established the Regulated Pass, that allows to preserve in the institution, high school youth who have outstood due to their talent.

The third axis of the report of labors was focused to the "Administrative Support," an area where admitted that there are still things to do, such as transfer to digital systems, hence, he announced that there have been two agreements issued for internal verification processes, which will help diminish documentation processes and suppress the payment of issuing of some documents that professors and students at the institution require.

Dr. Guerrero Agripino reiterated that in the House of Studies, the administration must be at the service of the academic activity, which also translates in training programs and stimulus for the administrative personnel, who thanked for their support to transfer to more agile and efficient processes.

In his message, the General Rector affirmed that "what the University of Guanajuato is today, is not the effort of just one day," and reaffirmed that achievements exposed in his report are the result of a year of work from all the university community, which is obliged to answer the needs of its ambience and the demands in the context.

He also thanked the institutions, associations and external organisms, who have collaborated in fundamental projects for UG, such as the Institutional Program of Gender Equality, that contribute in the construction of a democratic and respectful culture of the human rights.

In his intervention, the Governor of the State, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, sustained that the University and the State are an inseparable binomial, hence, he reiterated his complete support to UG, institution he considers as an example in handling resources, social commitment and working environment.

He referred to Dr. Guerrero Agripino as "a Rector who knows how to lead the University," so he thanked him for his sound work, passion, commitment and love for the University of Guanajuato.

At the ceremony spoke, representing the faculty, Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona, who remarked the work of inclusion made in this administration. On her part, the student Karen Ramírez Jasso welcomed her classmates to "the legendary beehive," and invited them to make their own, the values from the institution.

At the ceremony were present the representatives from the government collegiate organs from the university and unipersonal authorities, ex-rectors, federal and state legislators, functionaries from the three levels of government, as well as rectors from the universities of Guadalajara, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, and Michoacán; Instituto Tecnológico de León, de Roque, among other sister institutions.
