Guanajuato, Gto., August 18, 2016.- With the objective to promote and create lines of discussion and interdisciplinary research for the student and indigenous communities and society in general, with the mean to identify methodologies and actions to seek the preservation, divulgation and strengthening of the tangible and intangible heritage of the different indigenous communities throughout the country, from August 24 to 26 it will be held in the city of Guanajuato, the First Forum of Indigenous Culture: "Multicultural and Multilanguage Mexico."

In a press conference, Jazmín Ivonne Mortera and Mónica Covarrubias, who are part of the event's organization and students at the degree of History and Teaching of Spanish at the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus Guanajuato, respectively, commented that this forum emerged from the uneasiness of some students after seeing the unawareness and little interest there is for indigenous cultures and languages. With the objective to revert in any form this abandonment, in 2015 they organized the 1st Sociocultural Indigenous Forum with good results.

Fortunately –they expressed—this year have summed to project several students from diverse degrees and other instances, such as the Department of Social and Human Development from the government of the State of Guanajuato, the Union of Indigenous Students for Mexico A.C. of Nayarit, the Union of Indigenous Professionals od Nayarit, the Universidad Autónoma de Nayarit, the French Alliance of Guanajuato, the Mexican Cultural Centre of United Kingdom, in addition, of course, the support from the very own University of Guanajuato.

The First Forum of Indigenous Culture includes Magister conferences, discussion tables, editorial presentation, music concerts, dance, photography, short films, gastronomy and handcraft. In addition, workshops for children and adults of oral history, chichimeza jonaz, herbalism, wixárika, rarámuri, otomí (Ñhato), which will have place in different venues: Magnus Spaces of Campus Guanajuato (venue Marfil), Patio of the Ancient Jesuit Hospice, Museum of the People of Guanajuato, Iconographic Museum of Quijote, Casa CUatro and Alianza Frances de Guanajuato.

There will be the participation of specialists from Mexico and abroad; among others; Lic. Javier López Sánchez, General Director of the "Instituto Nacional de Lenguas Indígenas" (INALI), who will give a magister conference "Cultural diversity and linguistics"; Dr. Luis Fernando Granados of the Universidad Veracruzana, will speak about "The intuition of Marcos: The indigenous in the country of miscegenation;" Auwke Sofía García Mijarez, defender of the Wixárika people, will address "The cosmovision of Mother Earth in indigenous towns;" Efraín (Rainí) Rodelas, rarámuri entrepreneur, will share the topic "Social entrepreneurship in the original rarámuri towns;" Dr. José Manuel Pedrosa Bartolomé, from the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, will dictate the conference "Indigenous and world tales."

All the activities of the forum will be open for the public and will be free; however, all attendants are invited to donate school supplies (notebooks, books, pencils) which will be taken to communities in Tierra Blanca on August 27th. The donations will be received in the Library "Paula Webb" from the Department of Languages from 13:00 to 14:00.
