-Seeks to influence, from a preventive perspective, in improving the social coexistence.
Guanajuato, Gto., April 19, 2018.- With the conviction that the best tool to face the social problems is prevention, the University of Guanajuato (UG) created "Conciudadanía UG", a comprehensive program sustained in four axes: Selfcare culture, Culture of Legality, Artistic Appreciation and Interest in Science.
"Conciudadanía UG" pretends to influence in substantial aspects of the university activity and its members, with the purpose to propitiate conditions that allow them to access a better life quality. Likewise, it seeks to generate a multiplying effect in the social environment, which implies a strong link with the different sectors and actors of society, in a framework of co-responsibility.
At the program's presentation, UG's President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, emphasized that the university seeks to influence in the construction of democratic, just and free society. In that sense, the program seeks to generate better social scenarios with a fundamentally preventive focus, considering the condition the state and the country is.

Through the artistic appreciation axis, the university seeks to form people to be sensitive, free, solidary and committed to their environment, and in the interest in science axis, reaffirms the mission to share the knowledge that is generated in the classrooms and laboratories of the institution.
Dr. Gustavo Garabito Ballesteros, a professor at the Department of Social Studies at Campus León, highlighted that with this program, UG, aware of its social transformation capacity, proposes –from the diversity of its disciplines—, work in solutions to and for society "in all its heterogeneous complexity."
He mentioned that violence is not a new phenomenon, but the way how it has penetrated all the areas of life has grown drastically. However, there are alternatives to reverse it, so he reassured the commitment of the university community to work in solving problems in the environment.
Previously, the General Director of the Ecosystem of Liaison, Innovation, Development and Application of Knowledge of the University of Guanajuato (VIDA UG), Dr. Jesús Martínez Patiño, detailed some of the actions and events that will be held as part of "Conciudadanía": radio programs, conferences, workshops, academic events and artistic expos, among others.
